As Atlantic Constructors grew to over 1,300 employees in their headquarters outside Richmond, Virginia, communication became increasingly difficult to manage.

With teams spread across offices and job sites, employees often operated in isolation. This fragmentation began to impact culture. Instead of a unified experience, different parts of the business developed their own ways of working. As Atlantic Constructors CEO Evan Shriver puts it, “You almost end up with little individual cultures throughout the organization… even individual job sites will bring on a life of their own.

A significant part of this challenge was reaching and engaging Atlantic Constructors’ frontline workforce – employees working across job sites and factory floors without consistent access to desks or traditional communication channels. These workers were often the hardest to reach with timely updates, limiting their visibility into company news and culture. Ensuring they felt informed, connected, and included required a more accessible, mobile-first approach.

At the same time, communication itself was inefficient and outdated. “Before Workvivo, communication was really back in the stone ages. You almost had to go with word of mouth,” says Shriver.

Information was scattered across systems, making even basic tasks frustrating. This was having daily friction for teams on the ground. “We’re running, trying to find this form from HR or a different form from payroll,” says Gabriel Wiggins, an Electrical Fabrication Manager who oversees a busy team.

Leadership knew that communication wasn’t just an operational issue – it was foundational to culture. And culture is something that Atlantic Constructors takes very seriously. As Bill Cooper, the Director of Culture & Engagement at Atlantic Constructors, defines it, “Culture means that people know what is expected of them. They feel safe speaking up. And they know that when they do, their leadership will support them.

Without clear, consistent communication, it was impossible to create the kind of environment they aspired to: one where employees felt connected, informed, aligned, and encouraged to speak up.

One of the truly great aspects of Workvivo is how we were able to customize it and bring our brand and our look and feel to the platform.

Why Workvivo

Atlantic Constructors needed a solution that could bring consistency to both communication and culture.

After evaluating their options, Workvivo stood out immediately. “It was very easy at the time for me to pick Workvivo,” says Director of Marketing Eddie Williams.

A key differentiator was the ability to fully customize the platform. The team created a branded experience, “Access Atlantic”, that felt native to the company.

As Shriver explains, “One of the truly great aspects of Workvivo is how we were able to customize it and bring our brand and our look and feel to the platform.

This wasn’t just about aesthetics – it was critical for adoption and engagement. “It looks like an Atlantic platform when you log into it,” says Shriver. “And that’s what we really wanted – a consistent message, a consistent brand, and a consistent feel.

Beyond branding, Workvivo enabled something far more powerful: direct, real-time communication across the entire workforce. “It allowed someone in the field… to receive information from the head of the company in an instant,” says Williams.

The Solution in Action

With Workvivo in place, Atlantic Constructors transformed how communication flows across the business.

Information is now centralized, accessible, and consistent. Leaders can share updates instantly, ensuring that every employee – regardless of location – receives the same message at the same time.

This consistency has become central to the company’s culture. As Shriver points out, “A great culture… really comes down to consistency. Are you seeing and feeling the same thing throughout the entire organization?

The platform has also made communication more inclusive and scalable. Messages can be delivered in multiple languages, ensuring that everyone can stay informed and engaged.

At the same time, Workvivo has added a human layer to communication – bringing personality and connection into the everyday experience. “We’re in construction, so we’re salty. There’s usually some funny stuff on there just about every day,” says Wiggins.

For leadership, the impact is tangible. “I think I smile every day when I look at the Workvivo platform,” says Shriver, while Cooper describes it simply as “a great experience all the way around.

Success Metrics & Business Impact

The impact of Workvivo has been both operational and cultural.

Managers have seen immediate efficiency gains. “It frees me up,” says Wiggins. Team leaders who use Workvivo well will find “their time and their stress levels will go down, the amount of time they have will go up,” he says.

By eliminating the need to chase information and streamlining communication, the platform has removed friction from daily work.

More importantly, it has helped unify the organization around a shared culture. Employees across job sites and offices are now aligned, informed, and connected in ways that weren’t possible before. Communication – once fragmented and inconsistent – is now a strategic strength.

And from a business perspective, the value is undeniable. “Workvivo has completely revolutionized how we communicate day to day,” according to Shriver. “It’s worth everything that you would ever have to pay for it. The return on investment there is just absolutely priceless.”

Expansion & Future Vision

For Atlantic Constructors, Workvivo is now a foundational part of how the company operates – and how it will continue to scale.

As the business grows, maintaining a strong, consistent culture across a distributed workforce will remain critical. With Workvivo, they now have the infrastructure to do exactly that.

Because at Atlantic Constructors, success isn’t measured by headcount – it’s about impact. As Cooper puts it, “ACI builds not by counting people, but by making people count.

And with Workvivo, every employee – no matter where they are – can connect, contribute, and feel part of something bigger.
